Blogging from Lynnwood Honda

I'm at the Honda dealership getting my transmission fluid changed. They've got a customer lounge with internet stations so I'm making use of the down time.

Got some new things going on, here's the skinny.

  • I gave notice to UW Engineering this week; my last day is May 1st.
  • I've applied to several guiding companies: American Alpine, Alpine Ascents, Mountain Madness and Rainier Mountaineering Inc. (RMI). Alpine Ascents and RMI have both invited me to try out with them in May.
  • I'm taking WFR (Wilderness First Responder) training the week after next: 8 days of intense backcountry first aid instruction. WFR certification is required by many guiding outfits and they're handy skills to have anyways (never know when you'll find yourself in a tight spot in the backcountry). I'm looking forward to it.
  • If I don't get on with a guiding company, I'm considering
    1. Working full time at Cascade Crags and climbing as much as possible
    2. Working as a high-rise window washer and climbing as much as possible
    3. Going on a road trip - visiting Smith Rock, Yosemite Valley, J-Tree - who knows what else - and waiting to get a job until I get back.

That's where I am. Come May I'll have a better idea what direction I'll take, but it feels good to be moving forward, chasing my dreams.
