Muir Climb May 23- 25, 2014

We encountered some weather challenges last weekend on Rainier. Our hike to Muir on Friday was cold and wet, however Saturday turned out to be a gem and we were all able to dry out and get our climbing psych back. With cold weather and high winds forecasted that night, we chose to go for the summit Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately we didn't beat the winds - a lenticular cloud descended upon us around 13,000 feet, engulfing us in a ground blizzard. I broke trail through knee-deep snow drifts both up and downhill. Fortunately once we were below the cloud cap things mellowed out and the remainder of our retreat to Ingraham Flats was uneventful. Oh well, I'll have another chance next weekend.
